Kolkata: Even as the battle of nerves between India and Pakistan is at its peak, a forum of mass organisations, owing alliance to Leftist ideology, today took out an anti-war rally in Kolkata.

Organised under the banner of All India Peoples’ Forum, the rally traversed from Moulali near Sealdah to Dharmatala in central Kolkata.

Those participating in the rally carried banners and placards denouncing what they termed Narendra Modi government’s ploy to start a war with Pakistan by exploiting the terror attack on a CRPF convoy at Pulwama in Kashmir on 14 February.

The warmongering is aimed at reaping mileage for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in the country, the Forum has alleged.

Some 27 mass organisations, such as All India Students’ Association, Bandi Mukti Committee, Paschimbanga Ganassnkriti Parishad, etc. participated in the rally today.

Most of these organisations are directly or indirectly affiliated to the CPI-ML (Liberation), a Naxal political party.

This comes on a day Pakistan announced that it will on Friday (1 March) release Indian Air Force officer Abhinandan Varthaman, whom they had captured yesterday across the LOC in Kashmir.
