Midnapore: After Joynagar in South 24-Parganas on Thursday evening, miscreants have now killed with bullets a Trinamool leader at Adra in Purulia district.
This comes on a day a new board was being formed in a nearby Gram Panchayat. The victim has been identified as Hamid Ansari (42), a member of Trinamool’s Purulia district committee. Ansari was a resident of Palashkula village.
Police said that around 11 this morning, the Trinamool leader was driving a motorcycle towards Adra town. On the way, he halted at Chinpina railway crossing as the gate was closed for a train to pass.
During this, a group of armed miscreants surrounded Ansari and started firing at him from a close range. At least 10-12 rounds were bumped into Ansari’s body, killing him on the spot.
On learning about the incident, a team from Adra police station rushed to the spot and sent the dead body for post-mortem.
Even since the Panchayat elections in the state in May this year that saw BJP winning a sizeable number of seats in the Junglemahal areas including Purulia, the region has been witnessing political murders.
Sometimes it is the BJP cades and sometimes those from Trinamool who are being killed.
