Kolkata, 26 December: PROVING all anticipations wrong, estranged Trinamool Congress leader Mukul Roy today did not turn up at the party supremo Mamata Banerjee’s Kalighat residence in Kolkata for an organisational meeting.
In the run-up to next year’s state Assembly polls, Banerjee is holding meeting with Trinamool leaders from the districts every Saturday. Today was the turn for North 24-Parganas.
After a gap of about 10 months since February, Mukul Roy was made a part of a delegation of Trinamool MPs that had called on Union minority affairs minister Najma Heptulla on 16 December.
Following this, there was a heightened anticipation in the Trinamool Congress about Roy attending today’s North 24-Parganas district organisational review meeting chaired by the party supremo, as he is a leader from the same district. But in reality, Roy remained absent from the meeting.
This is despite that Roy has been camping in his native house at Kanchrapara in North 24-Parganas for the past few days.
Moreover, his son and Bijpur MLA Subhranghsu Roy, was today present at the Kalighat meeting along with all Trinamool MPs, MLAs and leaders up to the block level from across North 24-Parganas.
Sources close to Roy said that he has skipped the meeting as the party supremo did not ask him to remain present.
Roy was removed by Mamata Banerjee from the post of Trinamool all India general secretary in February this year after he allegedly told the CBI “more than needed” on the Saradha Scam.
Since then, Roy was kept away from all party activities in the past 10 months, with the only exception being inclusion in 16 December delegation of party MPs.
