Asansol, 10 October: VAST areas of Durgapur in West Burdwan have been inundated in overnight rain since yesterday afternoon.

Although the rain receded during the day today, scattered rainfall has again started from this evening. Parts of neighbouring Birbhum and Bankura too are witnessing this downpour.

The overnight rain has left several parts of Durgapur town and the suburbs under water ranging from ankle to knee deep level. Main Gate, Tamla, Khatpukur, Benachiti, Steel Township and adjoining areas have been affected the most.

There is over ankle-deep water in front of Durgapur railway station building, forcing passengers to wade through the water. With Met officials in Kolkata forecasting the rain to last over the next 24-hours, the situation might worsen.
