Siliguri: A young army jawan has died in mysterious circumstances at Indian Army’s Binnaguri Cantonment in the Dooars region in north Bengal.
The incident occurred on Thursday and police have sent the dead body for post-mortem to the Jalpaiguri District Hospital.
According to police sources, Sunil Indel of 810 AT Company was on sentry duty at the Binnaguri Cantonment gate on Thursday morning.
Around 9.45 am, other jawans heard a gunshot from the gate and rushed to find Sunil lying on the ground with a bullet having pierced is head. He apparently shot himself using his service rifle. Sunil was at once rushed to the Binnaguri Army Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.
On being informed, a team from Banarhat police station later arrived and sent the body for post-mortem.
Army sources said that the deceased jawan hailed from Salwa in Jodhpur district of Rajasthan and he had joined the Army barely two years ago. It not clear what could have pushed the young army jawan to end his life if that is the case.
