Kolkata: A teenage girl was found in an injured and unconscious state by the road at Golf Green in south Kolkata on Friday morning raising suspicion that she might have been raped and then dumped at the place.
The girl, who hails from Jadavpur area, is a student of class IX at Tollygunge Girls School. She left home on Thursday morning for school but did not return in the afternoon. Her grandparents, with whom she lives following the death of her parents when she was a child, had lodged a missing diary at Jadavpur police station around 11 pm on Thursday night.
Today morning, a woman newspaper hawker spotted the girl lying unconscious and injured on a by-lane at Gold Green’s Golam Mohammad Shah Road. Her clothing was torn and she was bleeding from the lower body. There were injuries, similar to scratch marks, on her face. Her school bag, chain, and hair-clip were lying nearby.
With the newspaper hawker raising an alarm, residents of the area came to the rescue of the girl and informed Jadavpur police station. Cops rushed her to MR Bangur Hospital at Tollygunge, where she is admitted in an unconscious state.
Her grandfather has said that the girl used to keep a set of casual dress in her bag all the time and used to go for tuition after returning from school. When she didn’t return home Thursday afternoon, they initially thought she might have straightway gone to attend the tuition.
The family became worried when the teenage girl did not return until late in the night and this made them lodge the missing diary. Significantly, the girl was today found in a casual dress and not in her school uniform.
Police haven’t ruled out the possibility that she might have been raped by someone known who dumped her at the spot where she was found today morning. But with her condition still being critical, police haven’t been able to record her statement as yet.
