Siliguri: A tea garden worker, who was mother to four daughters, has been found dead in Jalpaiguri district today. It is suspected that she has been raped and murdered.
The body was found this morning and the deceased has been identified by as Anukul Munda (38). She was a permanent worker of Juranti tea garden at Matelli area.
Since her husband Ghasi Munda works in an outstation location, Anukul lived in a labour quarter in the garden with their four minor daughters.
Today morning, on way to plucking tea leaves, some workers spotted Anukul’s dead body lying near Section 16 of the plantation. There was no salwar (legging) on the lower part of the body, although her kameez on the upper body was intact.
The workers reported the matter to the tea garden management, and they, in turn, informed Matelli police station. Police retrieved the dead body and sent to Jalpaiguri District Hospital for post-mortem.
Going by the circumstances, in which the dead body has been found, police suspect that the woman was raped and murdered. She was probably pounced upon by someone while she was returning home in late afternoon after work.
