Asansol, 03 September: A MARRIED woman, who was allegedly raped and later threatened for reporting it to the police, killed herself by jumping in front of a speeding train near Samudragarh railway station in Burdwan.
The woman a resident of Siddeswaritala area under Purbasthali police station was allegedly raped by Samrat Rajvanshi of the same village on 31 August after he forcibly entered her home when she was alone.
The woman had reported the incident to the police but the cops did not arrest the accused even as he was seen roaming about the village. The accused had allegedly threatened the woman to withdraw her complaint.
Instead of supporting the woman, fearing social stigma, her husband sought a divorce from her. This depressed her to the extent that she jumped in front of a running train on Wednesday. The rape accused man is still absconding.
