Kolkata / Kalyani: It’s confirmed now! The second semifinal of the ongoing Durand Cup in Bengal will be played between home-giant Mohun Bagan and the visiting Real Kashmir FC.

This after Real Kashmir made a draw in its third and final group match today 17 August against FC Goa. The match played at Kalyani Stadium in Nadia ended score less.

With each of them having won two previous group matches, both the teams were at six points. But after the draw this afternoon, Real Kashmir entered the semis due to the higher number of goals it scored in the previous matches.

Its opponent in the semifinal, Mohun Bagan, had already made it to the semis win two big wins in the first two group matches. It won the third group match as well that was played at Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata this evening.

The match against Indian Navy, spared by the incessant rains, however, proved a tough game for the mariners. A strong defence by Navy and a few narrow misses by Mohun Bagan boys made the match go into the half-time break with the scoreboard still blank.

The lull finally ended in the second-half when Navy’s Dalraj Singh made a rough tackle on SK Faiaz in the penalty box. The referee signaled for a penalty and Francisco Gonzalez Munoz calmly netted the ball giving Mohun Bagan a lead.

But for Singh’s rough tackle, the mariners would have had a hard time in defeating Navy, who had successfully foiled all attempts by Mohun Bagan to score a goal in the first half. The match ended 1:0 in favour of the mariners and with this ended Indian Navy’s run for this Durand Cup.

Mohun Bagan will play Real Kashmir on 21 August in the second semifinal. The match is at Salt Lake Stadium from 7.30 pm.
