Kolkata: The state government will soon undertake a special drive to fill-up the vacant posts in government offices, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has announced.

This apart, to encourage self-employment, the state government has decided to extend a one-time aid of Rs 5,000 to each of the registered self-help groups in Bengal.

The twin announcements came today 10 July on the floor of the state Assembly.

Replying to a query from an MLA, the Chief Minister said that there are 33,687 posts lying vacant in various state government offices. These posts are in Group A to D categories.

Out of these, 15,160 posts are reserved for SC, ST, OBC, and physically challenged candidates; the remaining 18,527 posts are unreserved.

Going by the establish practice, West Bengal Public Service Commission handles all recruitment drives in the state government offices.
