Kolkata, 5 October: FOLLOWING the success of the second edition of Durga Puja Carnival and road show in Kolkata, Mamata Banerjee government has now decided to organise similar events at all district headquarters and major urban hubs in the state from next year.
Sources in the state information and cultural affairs (I & CA) department have informed that the Chief Minister has taken the decision on finding that several Durga Puja organisers from the districts around Kolkata wanted to bring their Idols to the Carnival in Kolkata held on 3 October.
They were those Pujas from the district that had bagged the Biswabangla Sharad Samman for eye-catching and innovative Idols and pandals.
Preliminary, it has been decided that 25 select Durga Idols and artefacts will take part in the Carnival at the district level. The carnival in the districts will be held after the Durga Puja on a date before the main event held on Red Road in Kolkata.
I & CA department will fund the district carnivals and local police will be in-charge of organising. Chief Minister had started the Red Road event from 2016 and in the second edition this year, while over 20,000 spectators were present on the ground, another 5.17-lakh viewed it live on CM’s Facebook page.
