Kolkata: By now the urban populace in India has got used to buying books, apparels and, home furnishings online.
The premium motorcycle manufacturer, Royal Enfield, pushed this to the new level on Thursday by announcing that people will now be able to buy its motorbikes online.
The announcement came on the sidelines of the launch in Kolkata of two new models of Royal Enfield bikes ~ Continental GT 650 Twin and Interceptor INT 650 Twin.
“Consumers can now log into our official website and book their favourite Royal Enfield motorcycles, by paying the booking amount. We will deliver the bike through any of our 750 dealerships across India,” said Rudratej Singh, president of the company.
Supplementing the announcement, head India business, Shaji Koshy said that to serve the customers faster, Royal Enfield will augment the number of dealerships to 925 by March next year.
“As regards Bengal, over the past two years, our dealership network has grown more than 40 per cent and the number of brand-led and dealer-led ride events has increased more than 100 per cent. This demonstrates our growth story in Bengal, and more importantly, the growth of leisure motorcycling as a culture”, he said.
Eastern India, which includes Bengal, has some 163 dealers now and accounts for about 16 per cent of Royal Enfield’s Indian sales.
The company is now eyeing to woo the mid-economy segment of the population with the launch of new bikes and events.
“Reunion East, a ride that the company started in Bengal last year, will be held this winter as well. “This is going to be an annual calendar event for us,” Koshy said.
GT 650 Twin and Interceptor INT 650 Twin launched today come with a special combination of an agile chassis and a simple but state-of-the-art air-cooled, 650cc engine, producing a punchy yet user-friendly 47 horsepower.
They come with a three-year warranty and roadside assistance service. The ex-showroom price in Kolkata starts at Rs 2,50,000 for Interceptor INT 650 and, Rs 2,65,000 for Continental GT 650.
