Diamond Harbour: A jawan of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) has been arrested on charges of molesting an actress on-board a local train in South 24-Parganas.

The accused, Samaresh Mondal, is a constable of the RPF. He is posted at Baruipur railway station. Police have booked him under Indian Penal Code sections 354 (molestation) and 354A (sexual comments).

The actress, who works in Bengali television serial, is a resident of Dhakuria in south Kolkata. On Thursday 5 September, she had gone to Bakkhali in South 24-Parganas to shoot for some outdoor scenes.

Since the shoot ended earlier than expected, the actress, who is married, decided not to halt the night at Bakkhali with other members of the unit. Rather, around 9 pm she took the last Sealdah-bound train from Nakhana station.

The actress was alone in the ladies compartment, with two RPF jawans present as security guards.

In her written complaint at Sonarpur Government Railway Police (GRP) station, she has alleged that on the way when the train halted as Lakshmikantapur station, RPF jawan Mondal started drinking and smoking in front of her. He then started pestering her to share the drink and a puff.

But with the actress firmly refusing the offer, the RPF constable started making attempts to touch and embrace her. He made several such attempts.

At one point, the actress managed to shoot a video of this and also record the conversation of the constable on her mobile phone. She then sent the same to her husband through WhatsApp.

On receiving those, the husband called up the railway helpline and also rushed to Sonarpur GRP. Subsequent to this, when the train reached Sonarpur around 11.30 pm, a police team arrested the constable.

The second constable, who played a passive role in the harassment of the actress, however, managed to escape. Police have said that they have launched manhunt for him.
