Siliguri: Miscreants decamped with Rs 15-lakh cash from a bank manager at Falakata in Alipurduar district.

This has happened at Falakata’s New Chowpathy More area today 16 April morning. Police are scanning footage from all CCTV cameras in and around the spot to identify and nab the miscreants.

Ashim Kumar Roy Barman, the manager of Uttarbanga Kshetriya Gramin Bank branch at Bhutnirghat off Falakata, had come to State Bank of India Falakata branch to withdraw money.

SBI serves as the lead bank in the region where the Gram Bank deposits money and withdraws whenever the need arises to pay its customers.

Barman, who was accompanied by a colleague, was returning to his bank on a motorcycle after having withdrawn Rs 15-lakh. The money was in a handbag.

As they were passing through Falakata’s New Chowpathy More, two youths on a motorcycle snatched the handbag and sped away towards Dhupguri in Jalpaiguri district. Both the youths were wearing helmets.

It took a few moments for the manager and his colleague to realise that they have been robbed of the Rs 15-lakh that belonged their bank. They subsequently went to Falakata police station and lodged an FIR.

Police have started scanning the CCTV footage from in and around the bank and the spot where the money was looted. But so far, they have not met with success.
