Kolkata, 08 September: SECTION 144 of the CrPC has been imposed in and around the premises of Mahadevi Birla World Academy at Park Circus in Kolkata on Tuesday following agitation by parents.
The management had late on Monday announced that the school would remain closed for an indefinite period due to the agitation by a section of parents.
The parents have been agitating for the past few days against the school authority’s decision to reconvert the institute from co-ed to a girl’s school from the next academic session.
The school was originally founded as a girls-only institute but the management converted it into a co-ed one in the 2013-14 academic session.
At that time also, some parents had objected to the move but the management ignored this saying that objecting parents were free to take away their children to some other school. The school subsequently admitted 232 boys in the pre-primary classes in the academic session of 2013-14 and 2014-15.
Now the decision to reconvert the school into a girls-only one has angered the parents of the boys, who feel that in future, their wards would find themselves isolated amidst an overwhelming number of girls.
Amidst this, the school principal sent a SMS to all parents on Tuesday night saying that the boys would be given adequate care even after the institute is reconverted to a girl’s school.
