Kolkata: DANX-17, the first-ever joint exercise to ensure the defence of Andaman & Nicobar Islands, was conducted under the aegis of the Andaman & Nicobar Command (ANC) from 20 – 24 November.
The prime objective of the exercise was to demonstrate and validate the procedures and drill of all the participating forces responsible for protecting the Islands. Additional forces from the mainland, including fighters and transport aircraft of the Air Force, special force troops, ships, and aircraft of the Navy and the Coast Guard participated in the exercise.
The highlights of the exercise included fighter and transport aircraft operations to support surface teams, para-jumps in the night sea, slithering of troops from helicopters, and amphibious landings of troops on the beaches.
Commander-in-Chief Andaman and Nicobar Command vice admiral Bimal Verma applauded all the participants for the synergistic planning and precise execution of the plans. He urged them to incorporate valuable lessons drawn from the exercise into their individual service plans so to prepare for any eventuality in the future.
