Kalyani, 27 November: THE CRAZE for taking selfie has claimed the life of a university student in West Bengal.
The incident took place on Friday near the Kalyani Sipanchan railway station in Nadia district.
According to eye witnesses, two first year under graduate students of Kalyani University ~ Sourav Dey and Abhishek Roy ~ were taking selfie by standing on the empty railway tracks early in the afternoon.
The two were so engrossed in taking selfie that they failed to take note of a speeding Kalyani-bound local train that was approaching Kalyani Sipanchan station and were hit by the train eventually.
Bystanders and classmates of the two students later took them to the JNM Hospital at Kalyani in a grievously injured condition. Sourav Dey succumbed to the injuries at the hospital towards evening; Abhishek is under treatment in a critical condition.
The deceased was a resident of Shyamnagar in North 24-Parganas.
