Kolkata: PARENTS of students at the GD Birla Centre for Education in the city have decided to form a forum in view of the sexual abuse of a nursery girl student by two teachers of the school.
A group of the parents today put up a hand-scribbled notice on the school gate saying that the first meeting of the proposed Parents’ Forum will be held on the school premises at 9 am Sunday. The Forum is proposed to include 15 parents that will discuss with the school management on issues faced by the students.
The announcement came even as a large section of the parents held a demonstration in front the school for the second consecutive day today. Parents of students from other schools in the city also joined in.
“Purpose of the Parents’ Forum is not to interfere in the affairs of the school or fight against the school management. It is proposed so to facilitate a platform through which parents can raise issues that concern the students of the school in general,” said Manasi Banerjee and Souvik Chakraborty, who are leading the initiative.
Meanwhile, after sitting over the matter for three years, GD Birla school authorities have finally installed CCTV cameras on the premises last night. Police and parents had advised the school install CCTV cameras in 2014 when a similar sexual assault of a girl had taken place on the campus.
