Kolkata, 27 August: SANJIV Khanna, ex-husband of prime accused Indrani Mukerjea in the Sheena Bora murder case, was flown to Mumbai on Thursday afternoon after a Kolkata court granted Mumbai Police a five-day transit remand for him.
Khanna was brought to Dum Dum airport in a yellow cab by a team of Mumbai Police that had arrested him from Alipore in Kolkata on Wednesday. In a brief interaction with media persons while he was being whisked inside the airport terminal, Khanna denied having any role in the high-profile murder.
Mumbai Police sources said that he would be interrogated over the next few days and is likely to be produced in Bandra court in Mumbai only on 1 September. In Kolkata, the Mumbai Police had sought a seven-day transit remand for Khanna, but the court granted only five-days.
During his questioning so far, Khanna is reported to have accepted of being present in Mumbai on 24 April 2012, the day Sheena Bora was allegedly strangulated to death. But he has so far denied involvement in the crime.
Khanna these days works as the manager of a hotel at Budge Budge, North 24-Parganas, owned by his friend Ajay Rawla, from who’s residence he was arrested on Wednesday.
