Siliguri: Two passengers in Siliguri today handed over to police a wallet loaded with a hefty sum, which they found while travelling in an auto-rickshaw.

Around 8 this morning, Deepak Biswas, a teacher hailing from Kolkata, and Mahesh Gupta, a resident of Sikkim, boarded an auto-rickshaw from New Jalpaiguri to Siliguri. After a while, they noticed a wallet lying on the backseat.

There were as much as Rs 53,176 in the wallet. On being asked, the driver said that the wallet is not his. Following this, the two passengers asked the driver to take them to the Siliguri Traffic Police headquarters at Air View More.

There, they handed over the wallet to Sumit Sarkar, the Panitanki More traffic guard inspector. Police have found an identity card inside the wallet in the name of Ansar Alam, a resident of Kishanganj in Bihar. Police are trying to contact him.
