Siliguri, 26 January: STAGE is all set for the second edition of the Bengal Travel Mart (BTM) that will kick start at Savin Kingdom in Siliguri tomorrow.
Started last year, BTM is the only state-level B2B tourism mart aimed at showcasing Bengal’s tourist destinations to the tour operators from all over India and abroad.
Subhasish Chakraborty of the Eastern Himalaya Travel and Tour Operators’ Association (EHTTOA), who happens to be the convenor of BTM 2017, said that they were giving final touches to the venue that would host the event from 27-29 January.
EHTTOA is a joint organiser of BTM along with the tourism and north Bengal development departments of the West Bengal government.
“The three-day mart would be inaugurated by state tourism minister Gautam Deb and north Bengal development minister Rabindranath Ghosh tomorrow 5 pm,” Chakraborty said, adding that this time, the mart would also have a B2C component.
Going by this, common visitors would be allowed entry into the pavilion on 28 and 29 January from 4 pm onwards to enable them seek information from tour operators about tourist destinations in Bengal and beyond. Open-air cultural performances on both the days are also there for common visitors.
The number tourism agencies putting up stalls at BTM this year is 120, and this includes ones from Nepal, Bhutan, Tripura, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and India Tourism. As against this, the number of tour operators is 139 including those from Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan, and Bangladesh.
