Siliguri: Siliguri Mayor and veteran CPI-M MLA, Asok Bhattacharya, is being brought to Kolkata after he suffered a heart attack.
Doctors at a private nursing home at Sevoke Road in Siliguri, where Bhattacharya was admitted on Sunday (25 August), have said that there is a minor blockage in the artery of his heart and it needs advance treatment.
Subsequent to this, accompanied by wife Ratna Bhattacharya and a few CPI-M colleagues, the Siliguri Mayor started for Kolkata tonight by train. He will be admitted to a private nursing home at EM Bypass in Siliguri tomorrow 27 August morning.
DYFI leader and member of Siliguri Mayor-in-Council, Shankar Ghosh, has said that Bhattacharya is stable and completely out of danger. “We are taking him to Kolkata for better treatment.”
Informed sources said that the veteran leader might be required to undergo an angioplasty.
The 70-year-old Communist leader complained of chest pain at his residence at Subhaspally in Siliguri on Sunday morning. Family and colleagues first took him to a nursing home at College Para, where an ECG was done on him.
On finding some anomaly in his heartbeat, the nursing home at once referred him to a bigger facility at Sevoke Road. There, after examining him, the doctors said that the Mayor has suffered a minor heart attack.
