Siliguri: NORTH Bengal University (NBU) in Siliguri today got a new vice-chancellor following the superannuation of Somnath Ghosh on 11 February.

Subiresh Bhattacharya, who had been the chairman of West Bengal School Service Commission, took over as the new VC of NBU today. He has in the past served as the principal of Syamaprasad College in Kolkata.

Teaching and non-teaching staff of NBU accorded Bhattacharya a warm welcome. He will be in office for the next four years unless something goes wrong.

“I shall focus my energy on lifting the academic standard of NBU further. I will also work to ensure that the varsity excels in other related spares as well,” he told reporters soon after assuming office.
