Kolkata: A middle-aged man has been found dead in his flat at Lake Gardens in south Kolkata this afternoon.
The deceased has been identified as (42). He used to stay alone in the flat ever since his chartered accountant father and mother passed away a few years ago.
Mitra used to avail home delivery of meals from a man named Hari Das. Das used to supply him both lunch and dinner every day. Today around 1.45 pm Das came to deliver launch to Mitra but despite repeatedly pressing the calling bell of Mitra’s second floor flat, no response came.
This made Das alert the caretaker of the building, Ashim Maiti. The two then brought this to the notice of the occupants of other flats in the building. Subsequently, a word was sent out to the Lake police station.
Police arrived soon and forced open the door to the flat which was bolted from inside. Mitra was found lying dead on the bedroom floor and there was white fluid oozing through the corner of his mouth.
This apart, the entire room was scattered with different types of toys. This is even as Mitra used to live alone and according to the neighbours, he mostly kept to himself. Police have come to know that despite being educated Mitra was unemployed and used to survive on the money left behind by his parents.
Other the flat, he had inherited from his parents a plot of land on the southern fringes of the city. Of late, Mitra was in talks with a real estate developer from Regent Park off Tollygunge for constructing a residential apartment on the plot.
Police are trying to find out what exactly led to Mitra’s death and for this, his body has been sent to the MR Bangur Hospital at Tollygunge for post-mortem.
