Kolkata: AROUND 100-farmers from Singur in Hooghly today joined the BJP. They were with Trinamool until today and had taken part in the 2006-2008 landmark Singur land movement that catapulted Trinamool to Bengal’s power.
The farmers joined the BJP under the leadership of Sekhar Ghosh, a Trinamool leader from Singur. BJP state president Dilip Ghosh and new entrant Mukul Roy handed out them the saffron flag at party state headquarters in Kolkata.
Among the farmers, who switched over to BJP today, include Sudip Ghosh and Dwarikanath Ghosh, well-known faces of the Singur movement.
It may be mentioned that Mukul Roy, the former second in command of Trinamool, had changed over to BJP earlier this month. Since then, several Trinamool workers in the districts have followed the suit.
