Kolkata: Automobile major Skoda has set a target of selling 1,000 premium cars in eastern India this year with the bulk of the sales being eyed in Kolkata.

“We sold about 400 units in the eastern region last year. This year the target is to sell 1,000 units, with 500 alone being aimed in Kolkata,” Skoda India’s director-sales, service, and marketing Ashutosh Dixit said in Kolkata today.

Dixit was in the city to inaugurate a new exclusive showroom for Skoda cars at AJC Bose Road near Nonapukur Tram Depot. Named Global Motocorp, the showroom will handle sales, service, and spares for all segments of Skoda cars for Bengal and Sikkim.

This is the third showroom that Skoda has launched in eastern India this year. “Jamshedpur and Patna showrooms were launched earlier. After Kolkata, will start two more showrooms in eastern India this year ~ one at Guwahati, the other at Bhubaneswar,” Dixit said.

He added that the company has spent around Rs 100-crore in setting up new dealership showrooms in the country over the past two years.

Skoda cars roughly range between a price band of Rs 10-lakh to Rs 40-lakh and according to the company’s eastern India officials, Kolkata market mostly consumes the premium models such as Superb and Octavia.
