Diamond Harbour: A teenage girl pursuing higher secondary studies has committed suicide while chatting on a Facebook video call with her boyfriend.
The incident has taken place at Baidyapara under Sonarpur police station jurisdiction in South 24-Parganas. The deceased has been identified as Mousumi Mistri (17), a higher secondary second-year student at Kamrabad Girl’s High School.
According to her mother Shampa Mistri, who works as a private nurse, on Saturday evening she went out on night duty leaving daughter Mousumi and son at home. Her husband was out on work.
“Around 11 am yesterday (Sunday), my son phoned me saying that Mousumi did not open her door although it is late in the morning. I asked him to bang the door thinking that she might be at sleep. But when this did not yield a result, he peeped through the opening in a window and found Mousumi hanging from the ceiling,” Shampa said.
The mother at once came home rushing. By then the girl’s father had arrived and with the help of neighbours forced open the door and retrieved the dead body. A team from Sonarpur police station subsequently came and sent the body for post-mortem.
During this, police found Mousumi’s mobile phone on her bad with a Facebook video call still on. Cops suspect that before hanging herself the teenage girl did not disconnect the FB video call so to make her boyfriend see this live.
Family sources said that Mousumi was into an affair with a boy from Ghasiara at Sonarpur and went out with him on Saturday afternoon through evening. During this, she had some discord with him and this probably made her end her life.
