Kolkata, 14 January: KOLKATA-headquartered South Eastern Railway (SER) has set a new record by loading highest volume of freight in a single day over the entire Indian Railways network.
On last 31 December, SER loaded 7,707 wagons in terms of 8 wheelers in the course of a single day.
According to SER spokesperson, the feat comes keeping in tune with the 7.41 per cent growth in overall freight loading that it has recorded in the past nine months of 2015-16 fiscal year.
From April to December, SER has carried 97.70 million tons of freight as against 90.96 million tons during the corresponding period the previous year.
The major components of this growth in freight loading include 53.83 million tons iron ore, 18.86 million tons coal, 10.59 million tons pig iron and finished Steel, 6.36 million tons cement, 3.25 million tons merchandised goods, and 1.6 million tons petroleum products.
The growth in loading has pushed up SER’s freight revenue to Rs 7,523 crore, which about Rs 604 crore higher than the corresponding period of last year.
