Siliguri: The alleged backdoor entry of Left-turned-Trinamool leader Paresh Adhikary’s daughter in the waitlist published by West Bengal Central School Service Commission (SSC) for recruitment of teachers is snowballing into a major issue.

Siliguri CPI-M MLA and Mayor Asok Bhattacharya has now written to the state education minister Partha Chatterjee demanding a “high-level probe” into the matter.

In the letter sent today, Bhattacharya has mentioned that while one Babita Barman was at waitlist No 1 in the list published by SSC, within two days one Ankita Adhikary made an entry at WL-1.

“It has been learned that Ankita Adhikary is the daughter of former food minister and Forward Bloc leader Paresh Adhikary. Newspapers have also reported that this is the reward for Paresh Adhikary party switchover. If this is true then, it amounts to a monumental corruption.”

“Being an MLA from the region (north Bengal), I demand a high-level into this corruption. Till the probe is concluded and a transparent list is published, the existing list should be put on hold,” Bhattacharya has demanded.

Paresh Adhikary, who had been a Forward Bloc leader from Cooch Behar and a former Left Front minister, switched over to Trinamool on 17 August. Within days of this, his daughter’s name suddenly made an entry in SSC’s waitlist for recruitment of postgraduate assistant teachers in state-run schools.

The counselling for candidates on the waitlist is slated for 29-31 August in Kolkata.
