Kolkata: Nearly two weeks since FIR, police have finally arrested five Trinamool student leaders who had stripped a student at St Paul’s Christian Mission College in Kolkata for raising questions about embezzlement of student union funds.
Praveen Tripathi, the joint commissioner (crime) of the city police named the five arrested as Arnab Ghosh, Abhijit Dalui, Ananta Pramanik, Kaium Molla, and a state committee leader of the Trinamool Chhatra Parishad. They will be produced in court tomorrow.
Of those arrested, Ghosh is a first-year undergraduate student and president of the TMCP ruled student union at the college, Dalui is TMCP member and second-year student, Pramanik is a non-teaching staff of the college, and Molla is a TMCP member.
The college authorities had yesterday expelled Ghosh and Dalui; Pramanik was suspended. The second-year student, who was stripped on 17 May in the union room, had lodged a complaint with the college authorities and at Amherst Street police station on 4 June.
