Kolkata, 2 October: STAGE is set for the Durga Puja road show at Red Road in Kolkata from 5 pm on Tuesday, 3 October. The show is scheduled to continue until 8.30 pm.
This is the second edition of the road show being organised by the state government to showcase best Durga Idols and artefacts at a single venue. The first edition was held on 14 October 2016.
According to Kolkata Police sources, as many as 66 Durga Idols will be exhibited in the road show tomorrow. The procession of Idols, accompanied by respective members of the Puja committees, will start from Fort William end of Red Road and culminate at RR Avenue end.
Police have said that at best 50 persons can accompany an Idol and use four vehicles at the most. Each Puja committee will get about three minutes to halt in front of the VIP podium where Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will be present along with other dignitaries.
Arrangements have been made for 20,000 seats placed on both sides of Red Road; 2,000 seats from these have been kept reserved for guests. The state administration has sent invitations to consulates of nine countries located in Kolkata, as well as FIFA officials who are here for the U-17 World Cup scheduled to begin in the city on 8 October.
Given that entry is free, administration is hoping a huge turnout of people and to man them some 1,500 police personnel are being deployed. Traffic on Red Road will be suspended from 1 pm tomorrow and until the show ends.
Some large LED screens will be installed outside the venue so that those failing to get entry into Red Road can catch a live glimpse of the road show.
