Kolkata: THE state government has decided to build a new flyover in south Kolkata running from Prince Anwar Shah Road- Raja Subodh Chandra Mallick Road Crossing to Sulekha More at Jadavpur.
Announcing this at the state Assembly today, urban development minister Firhad Hakim said that the proposed flyover will be 1.6 km long and will be built at an estimated cost of Rs 248.22 crore. The funds will come from the state’s planned budget.
The flyover will start from near Jadavpur police station, which is located at Prince Anwar Shah Road- Raja Subodh Chandra Mallick Road Crossing, and pass by Jadavpur University and Jadavpur 8B Bus Stand before terminating at Sulekha More at Jadavpur.
Going by this, the two-lane flyover will come handy for people travelling to and from Santoshpur and then on to EM Bypass. Commuters to and from Garia will also benefit from this.
“We have already issued a notice inviting tender for constructing the flyover. The plan is to complete and commission the flyover in two years, that is, by 2020,” Hakim said.
Meanwhile, Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA) is starting a re-carpeting exercise for the 380-metre long Dhakuria Bridge from Friday (1-2 December midnight).
KMDA said that it will take them 40-days to carry out the repair at an estimated cost of Rs 19-lakh. The repair will be carried out while keeping one flank of the bridge open to traffic.
As a result, buses towards Gariahat will be allowed to ply on the bridge from 6 am – 2 pm and the buses towards Jadavpur will be allowed from 2 pm and 10 pm. Between 10 pm and 6 am, buses in both directions can ply through the bridge.
There are no restrictions on other vehicles plying through the bridge from both directions.
