Asansol: Amidst violence targeted at the opposition party workers in the run-up to the Panchayat poll, Trinamool cadres are now not even sparing their own party men and supporters.

A Trinamool worker has been killed in a hand grenade attack at Bhatar in East Burdwan district as because he was backing a rebel Trinamool candidate for the coming Panchayat poll.

The deceased has been identified as Ramzan Molla (56). He was a resident of Bhumshore village at Bhatar block.

Molla has been campaigning for Shamima Khatun, who belongs to local Trinamool leader Mangovinda Adhikari’s camp and contesting the election as an Independent from Bhatar 103 gram panchayat seat. This left angry the dominant Trinamool faction led by Bhatar MLA Banamali Hazra.

Today morning around 9 am, Molla was returning home after buying ration when some Trinamool cadres from the Hazra camp hurled crude hand grenades at him. One of the grenades hit him in the chest and he died on the spot.

Acting on a complaint lodged by his son, police have so far arrested three Trinamool cadres. MLA Hazra has claimed that he has no clue to why Molla has been killed and expressed sorrow over the death.
