Kolkata: The police have netted another top-ranking suspected militant of the Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB).

Acting on a tip-off, the Special Task Force (STF) of Kolkata Police raided a house in Chennai in Tamil Nadu at dawn today 10 September and arrested Asadulla Sheikh, 35.

According to the police, Asadullah is one of the front-ranking terrorists of the Indian unit of the JMB. He is a resident of Bhatar in East Burdwan.

After the 2014 accidental blast in a hideout at Khagragarh in East Burdwan, all JMB operatives had fled from Bengal and taken shelter in different parts of India. Asadullah is one of them.

Police say that he has been changing hideouts frequently to evade an arrest. In fact, the 35-year-old had paid a visit to his native village a few months ago but gave police a miss.

But after the recent arrest of JMB India head Ezaz Ahmed and his aide Kasem, the STF got some clues as to his whereabouts. Subsequent to this, an STF team left for Chennai and managed to nab Asadulla today.

The house from which the arrest has been made was rented by Asadullah three months ago. He used a fake identity to take the house on rent.

The STF team produced him in a Chennai court today itself and secured his transit remand. He is now being brought to Bengal.
