Asansol: A youth has been arrested from the Panagarh Air Force station in West Burdwan district after he was found roaming about suspiciously and taking snaps of the establishment.
The youth, in his early 30’s, has identified himself as Paritosh Dalui from Murshidabad district, but police are verifying the claim.
He was spotted moving about the Air Force base, which is home to India’s second Super Hercules C-130J Squadron, last evening by the Air Force security guards. He was allegedly taking snaps of the airbase on his mobile phone.
One being intercepted, the youth claimed that he wandered into the Air Force station without realising that it is a high-security zone. But despite repeated questioning, he could not tell the Air Force authorities as to how he managed to sneak past the round-the-clock security vigil and why had he come all the way from Murshidabad.
This made the Air Force authorities handover him to Kanksa police station last night. The youth was produced in Durgapur Sub-divisional Court today and police managed to get him on a remand for 14-days.
Police sources said that they need to verify the claims about his identity and native place. Cops also want to unearth his credentials and find out why had he entered the Panagarh airbase as he appears to be in sound mental health.
