Siliguri: Over a fortnight since a tourist cab fell into the Teesta river at Sevoke off Siliguri, the dead body of one more missing tourist has been found.
The decomposed dead body of Gopal Narayani of Bundi in Rajasthan was fished out from the Teesta river at Haldibari in Cooch Behar district yesterday 25 July. The spot is some 75-km downstream of Sevoke.
Narayani’s family members went to Haldibari today and identified it from a sacred thread tried around the neck.
The thread was gifted to him by some god-man for protection against evils.
Police arranged for a post-mortem of the dead body at Haldibari itself and handed over to the bereaved family.
Given the decomposed state of the body, the family has decided to cremate it there itself.
There were three tourists and the driver in cab when it fell into the Teesta at Sevoke on 10 July while on way from Siliguri to Gangtok.
The dead bodies of one tourist Aman Garg and driver Rakesh Rai were found earlier. The one who still remains missing is tourist Gaurav Sharma.
It may be mentioned that the Indian Navy recently joined the National Disaster Response Force team in search of the missing tourists and the car.
