Kolkata: WHAT a terrible Tuesday it has so far been for Bengal!
After the news of a man murdering his daughter and wife in North 24-Parganas, and a woman killing her father-in-law in West Midnapore, Kolkata too has not lagged behind in delivering its share of shock!
Police at Behala Parnasree in south Kolkata recovered the dead bodies of an aged couple from their residence today. Meenakshi Roy (62) was found dead on her bed; husband Rathindra Roy (72) was found dead next to the bed of his wife with his throat slit.
The aged couple lived on their own as their son is settled in Gurgaon off Delhi due to professional obligation, and married daughter lives elsewhere.
Meenakshi had suffered a cerebral attack two years ago and was bedridden since. Infirm Rathindra used to look after her with the assistance from a part-time help.
Their neighbours at Parnasree’s Beni Master Lane smelled that something was amiss as the door to the Roy house was shut throughout Monday. This made a few of them knock on the door today but failed to elicit a response. They alerted Parnasree police station.
Police came and broke open the door in the presence of the neighbours. Everyone was shell-shocked to find the couple dead. It is suspected that ailing Meenakshi probably died of a cardiac arrest, and to evade the prospect of dragging on with the aging life alone, Rathindra commited suicide by sliting his throat.
Police have found a suicide note from the bedroom wherein Rathindra has written that nobody is responsible for his and his wife’s death. He has not even for once blamed his son and daughter, who neighbours say, seldom enquired about their aged parents.
