Kolkata, 24 December: AS many as 28 newly passed out nursing cadets of the College of Nursing attached to Army’s Command Hospital in Kolkata has been commissioned to the rank of Lieutenants.

They were commissioned in a ceremony organised at the Command Hospital today, which was attended by the hospital commandant Maj Gen Atul Bajpai and principal of the College of Nursing Lt Col Cecily PJ. Family and friends of the young cadets were also present.

The 28 cadets, who hail different parts of the country, had commenced training at the College of Nursing in August 2012.  At the end of the four-year programme, they acquired a BSc in nursing degree from the affiliating West Bengal University of Health Sciences. Their’s is the third batch to have passed out from the College of Nursing.

Congratulating them Maj Gen Bajpai said: “Today is only the beginning. Do understand your true potential and strive to excel in your personal and professional journey. Always remember that the future belongs to those who dare to dream, and who believe in their dreams. Nothing can stop you reach your dream destination if you have courage and conviction.”

Among the newly commissioned cadets, Lt Joice George has been awarded a gold medal for securing the first position in the final year university examinations; Lt Cilby John bagged the silver medal for ranking second. Lt Joice George has also been adjudged the all-round best student and Lt Monika the best clinical nurse.

These bright women would soon to take charge as nursing officers in defence hospitals at Army, Navy, and Air Force bases all over the country.
