Hooghly: POLICE have arrested a recovery agent of a private finance company and his two aides for confiscating a car in which noted elocutionist Bratati Banerjee was travelling from Kolkata to Chinsurah in Hooghly yesterday.
The trio was arrested by police in the wee hours today by conducting raids at Chandannagar, Bhadreswar, and Serampore. They have been identified as Samir Singha Roy, Paritosh Ghosh, and Md Khurshid. All of them have been booked under non-bailable sections of the Indian Penal Code.
Banerjee, accompanied by her brother Biswajit Banerjee, was heading to a private school at Chisurah’s Khadina More yesterday. A group of recovery agents from Mahindra Finance stopped the car at Dhirgangi Crossing and forced the driver out.
They claimed that the owner of the car Prashanta Ghosh has defaulted two instalments and they are here to confiscate the car. When Banerjee introduced herself, the agents dropped Banerjee and her brother to Chinsurah in the same car but drove off with it after this.
