Kolkata: Parents of a teenage girl is suspected to have allowed a shaman to pierce needles into the neck of their daughter so to heal her depression. As many as nine needles were pierced and those travelled down the food pipe of the little girl and got stuck around her abdomen.
The shocking incident pertains to Krishnanagar in Nadia district and the victim girl is Aparupa Biswas (14). She is a student of class-VIII at Akshay Vidyapith Girls High School at Krishnanagar.
On returning from school on 21 July, the girl complaining of severe pain in her neck and eventually fainted. Parents took her to Krishnanagar Rural Hospital.
Doctors at the government facility were taken aback when the X-ray revealed that there were nine needles struck insider her ~ one at the back of her neck and others at different locations around her abdomen. They referred the girl to NRS Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata.
The family admitted the girl at NRS Hospital yesterday. The hospital formed a medical board and performed a nearly three-hour surgery on the teenage girl. They have managed to take out all the nine needles.
The parents of the girl are maintaining silence as to how the needles got into the girl’s body. The medical team has, however, managed to get a clue from the girl.
Going by her version, after her brother died three years ago, she started keeping unwell. To ensure that she returns to her normal self, her parents consulted a shaman who pierced the needles into her to keep evils away from her.
“Post the surgery, the girl is completely stable now. As far we could gather, the needles were deliberately pierced into her. This was done directly or indirectly at the behest of a shaman,” said Manoj Mukherjee, a member of the medical team that performed the surgery on the little girl.
