Barasat: The dead body of a college student, who was run over by a train, remained on the railway track and trains kept on plying over the dead body for almost two hours!
The shocking incident has taken place at Khardah railway station in North 24-Parganas today. The victim student has been identified as Soham Mitra, an undergraduate chemistry student at Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Centenary College at Khardah.
Mitra was knocked down by the Asansol-Sealdah Intercity Express around 10.30 this morning as he was crossing over the railway line with a headphone plugged into his ears. The mishap occurred at the unmanned railway crossing close to Khardah station.
After the mishap, the dead body of the boy remained unattended on the spot and trains after trains kept on plying over the dead body. This is despite the people of the area alerting the Khardah station authorities. Going by the norms, the driver of the train that knocked dead the boy should have also informed the matter to the next halting station.
The dead body was removed by railway police only around 1 in the afternoon, that is over two hours since the accident occurred.
