Kolkata: The first ever protest by a section of secretariat employees at Nabanna yesterday demanding payment of pending dearness allowance (DA) has rubbed Mamata Banerjee government in the wrong way.
So much so that the state government has transferred out from Nabanna a leader of the Trinamool-leaning employees union for merely speaking out in support of the demand.
Sanjib Pal is the general secretary of Trinamool-leaning State Government Employees Federation and until today he was posted at the Chief Minister’s Officer (CMO) at Nabanna.
During the demonstration for DA yesterday at the behest of the Left-backed Co-ordination Committee of State Government Employees’ Unions, Pal said that like all the state government employees he also supports the demand.
He also questioned a diktat by the authorities that those posted in the CMO cannot participate in any agitation.
That the powers that be did not take his comments lightly became evident when Pal was today handed out a transfer order to the state transport department located at Dalhousie in Kolkata.
As the news spread, Pal’s followers from the Federation held a demonstration at the Nabanna Bus Terminus today afternoon against the transfer order. They demanded that the transfer order should be cancelled and their leader should be allowed to continue in the CMO.
