Barasat: A Trinamool councillor of Barrackpore Municipality has allegedly stabbed a homemaker with a sharp weapon after she turned down his advances.
The homemaker, with injuries in her hand, neck, and abdomen, is now admitted to the BN Bose Hospital at Barrackpore. The accused councillor Ajabithi Biswas is on the run. He represents Ward 2 of Barrackpore.
As alleged by her family in an FIR at Barrackpore police station, Biswas has been stalking the woman for a while and even proposed her to get intimate when her husband is away. But she turned down his advances.
Despite this, Biswas kept on pressurising her and this made the woman to consume poison earlier. The family had lodged a complaint with police on that occasion but to no avail.
Yesterday morning, the woman was walking back home after dropping her minor son at the Ramakrishna Vivekananda Mission School on Barrackpore’s Riverside Road. There are always thin pedestrians on the road, which is close to Barrackpore military cantonment.
As the woman was walking back, councillor Biswas approached her from behind. As soon as she turned back, he stabbed her with a sharp weapon repeatedly. This made the woman collapse on the road and with Biswas trying to repeat the attack, she screamed out a loud for help.
This made people from the vicinity rush into her rescue. Biswas fled the spot before people could reach the exact spot. People rushed the injured woman to the hospital and informed her family.
The family subsequently lodged an FIR against the Trinamool councillor but police say that he has gone hiding. Shraboni Biswas, the wife of the accused councillor, refused to comment. The couple has a daughter.
Chairman of Barrackpore Municipality, Uttam Das, however, maintained that it was a plot to frame his party councillor.
“There is a feud going in the woman’s family for a while and she had called up the councillor seeking help and financial aid. But since he refused to intervene in the feud, they are now trying to frame him,” Das said.
