Behrampore, 29 December: WEST Bengal government will be spending crores of rupees in organising Bengal Global Business Summit from 07-09 January to attract industries to the state.
Ironically, nine days before the mega show, a group of Trinamool Congress workers today forayed into the Sagardighi Thermal Power Project site in Musrhidabad district and beat up officials and engineers of a private firm engaged in the construction of a 500 megawatt new power plant.
This after the private firm from Andhra Pradesh declined to pay extortion money to the group and also denied to hire some contract workers recommended by the group. The power project belongs to the West Bengal Power Development Corporation owned by the Bengal government.
Sources at the project site said that some 20-22 Trinamool workers led by the party trade union wing INTTUC’s local leader Masiur Rehman forayed into the work site today noon and beat up eight senior officials and engineers, including the project manager S Shivaraj who sustained injuries in his head.
Shivaraj is now admitted to the Murshidabad Medical College and Hospital; the rest of the injured have received outdoor treatment.
Murshidabad district Trinamool Congress president Mannan Hussain claimed that the attackers were not associated with the Trinamool; rather Masiur and his men are Congress supporters.
Police are yet to arrest anyone in connection with the attack.
