Malda: Police have arrested a Trinamool leader in Malda district for allegedly misappropriating government funds to the tune of Rs 1-crore.

The arrest was made today 19 June, on the very next day after Chief Minister and Trinamool supremo told a party event in Kolkata that the corrupt leaders will not be spared.

She had also instructed refund of the “cut-money” that such leaders had siphoned off from the funds meant for government projects.

Arrested Sukesh Yadav, was the head of Congress-ruled Mahanandatola Gram Panchayat at Ratua in 2017. During his tenure, he had allegedly misappropriated about Rs 1-crore from the funds allocated for constructing toilets under Mission Nirmal Bangla.

On discovering this, the then BDO of Ratua-I block lodged a complaint with the police against Yadav. But to evade action, he then switched over from Congress to Trinamool.

However, as soon the Chief Minister’s statement came yesterday, the police swung into action. Today they arrested Yadav and produced him at the Chanchal Sub-divisional Court.

Mausam Noor, the president of the Malda district Trinamool, has supported the police action and said that all those involved in corruption much face action.
