Kolkata, 12 September: BJP president Amit Shah has accused Trinamool of ruining the legacy of Bengal’s great souls like Rabindranath Tagore, Swami Vivekananda and others by resorting to indiscriminate violence against opposition party workers.
Shah, who is on a tour of Kolkata, made the accusation after the state BJP paraded as many as 93 victims of Trinamool atrocities before him at the ICCR Auditorium in Kolkata. They came from Basirhat, Bamangachi (North 24-Parganas), Dhulagarh (Howrah), Hooghly, Birbhum, Burdwan, Malda, North Dinajpur, and Cooch Behar.
“Is this the land of Tagore and Vivekananda? Is this the land of so many great souls where people are not being able to uphold their democratic rights to choose a political party? Because one is a BJP supporter, their hands is being broken, head is being smashed, and are evening being murdered! What Trinamool is doing in Bengal today is unprecedented in anywhere in the world,” the BJP president told a Press meet.
Drawing a parallel between the political atrocities during the Left regime in the past and the present regime of the Trinamool, Shah said that such brutalities will only further the end of Trinamool.
“People of Bengal elected you to power because they could not withstand the Left’s tyranny anymore. Now, if you think you can stop BJP by restoring similar tactics, then you will be proved wrong. The more you try to suppress us through violence, we will grow faster. People have brought change from red to blue; now it is time to change to saffron,” he said.
Shah also said that the Trinamool government must account for the Central funds that have been allocated to the state in the past three years. “Only violence and corruption are increasing in Bengal under your rule. I will provide detail of the funds given by the Centre to Bengal, you must show where you spent it. Has syndicates eaten up all the funds?”
To counter the BJP president’s allegations, Trinamool secretary general Partha Chatterjee convened a Press conference at the party headquarters in the afternoon. He accused Shah of having asked BJP cadres to launch counter-violence against Trinamool.
“You may visit Bengal as many times you want and let the Central agencies lose after Trinamool MLAs, MPS, ministers, BJP will still remain an insignificant political force here. As do not care about anything as long as the people are with us,” Chatterjee quipped.
