Kolkata: Trinamool and its top leadership have turned their social media display picture (DP) black as a symbolic protest against the killings of five Bengalis by suspected ULFA militants in Assam last night.
“In solidarity, on #ProtestDay to condemn the brutal killings of Bengalis by a State ruled by the #BJP, we are turning our Twitter/FB DPs into black. Street protests throughout #Bengal. Please turn your DP into black today,” Trinamool announced on its official Twitter handle this morning.
Soon after this, Trinamool supremo Mamata Banerjee, her nephew Abhishek Banerjee, chief spokesperson Derek O’Brien, and several other top leadership turned their Facebook and Twitter DP black. Trinamool workers too are following the suit in hordes.
This is in addition to the statewide protest rallies that Trinamool has called for today in Bengal in protest. In Kolkata, the rally will start at 1 pm from Jadavpur 8B Bus Stand and Mamata Banerjee’s nephew and youth Trinamool leader, Abhishek Banerjee, will be in the lead.
Trinamool will hold simultaneous rallies in other parts of the state at the same time. There will be centralised rallies at Siliguri, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar, Cooch Behar, and Nadia.
