Kolkata: The office bearers of a Trinamool Chhatra Parishad (TMCP) led student union in a college in Kolkata disrobed a student and forced him to make rounds of the union room naked because he had raised questions about the spending of the union funds.
The shocking incident has taken place at the St Paul’s Cathedral Mission College off Sealdah in north Kolkata. The incident took place a few days ago but the victim kept this to himself fearing more atrocities and humiliation.
He finally lodged a complaint with the college authority after the video of him being disrobed and beaten up naked started circulating over the WhatsApp on the mobile phones of other students.
In his complaint, the victim has named the TMCP student union president Arnab Ghosh, TMCP member Abhijit Dalui, college’s non-teaching staff Ananta Pramanik, and a Trinamool worker from outside named Sk Enamul Haque.
“On that day, they first kept me confined to the union room from afternoon through evening. I remained seated there in silence hoping that they will eventually let me go. But around 7.30 in the evening, they came and forcibly took away my clothes. They then started beating me left and right even as I kept on begging for my clothes. They even forced me to make rounds of the union room completely naked and shot a video of this on mobile phones,” the victim said today.
“Despite all this, I kept mum as I was frightened by their threats of more torture if I told about the incident to anyone. But when I found out that they have circulated the video so to scare other students, I decided to lodge the complaint.”
The college authority, however, is still maintaining I studied silence on the complaint. It has neither ordered an internal probe nor has reported the matter to police.
