Asansol: Police have arrested a gang of three youths, including a young woman, for duping several lakhs of rupees from unemployed people on the pretext of jobs at Kolkata airport.
The trio has been identified as Sayantan Mukherjee, Pallavi Roy Choudhury, and Ariful Sheikh.
Sayantan is a resident of Shibpur in Howrah, Choudhury hails from Rajarhat off Kolkata, and Sheikh is native of Ketugram. Police netted them from Sheikh house at Keturgram yesterday 22 August.
This after a youth named Asraf Mullick of Burwan in Murshidabad lodged a complaint against them with the police alleging that the trio took Rs 2.18-lakh from him promising him employment at Kolkata airport.
On probing the matter, Ketugram police station discovered that the trio did not dupe Mullick alone.
Rather, they had collected Rs 38-lakh from 14 unemployed youths hailing from East Burdwan and Murshidabad districts on similar promise.
Sayantan and Pallavi used to pose as staff of Kolkata airport and Sheikh acted as an agent for them. The three were produced at Katwa Sub-divisional Court in East Burdwan today and the judge sent them to ten days police remand.
