Kalyani: Speed driving has once again caused lives on a Bengal road with policemen being among the victims this time.
The accident occurred on National Highway 34 at Nakashipara police station area in Nadia district today morning.
Policemen Tarun Kumar Das, Muhammad Masood, and a colleague of theirs were travelling to Kolkata by a hired car this afternoon. The car was being driven by one Prabhas Mahato.
The car was moving at a high speed. Near Gaccha area of Nakashipara, the driver lost control and ended up dashing on the rear of a lorry that was parked by the road. The collision was so intense that the car’s frontal part got twisted and the two policemen and the driver died on the spot.
The third policeman was later rescued in a critically injured condition by a team from Nakashipara police station and was taken to Shaktigarh District Hospital. He is admitted there. The accident led to the suspension of traffic on the road stretch for about 30 minutes.
